Classroom Services is the front line service agency for technical support in the classroom, lecture halls, and special events. We provide a wide variety of audio/visual, video, and multimedia services to UCSB. Our mission is to provide "no miss" service: to be on time, reliable, courteous, and technically competent.

The first priority for the assignment of Instructional Resources equipment, facilities, and services is to support instruction on the UCSB campus. As funding permits, Classroom Services will provide service at no charge to campus academic departments during the regular academic year in order to support any courses which take place at the time and location listed in the current Schedule of Classes. Instructional Resources also provides a broad range of audio/visual, video, and multimedia services on a cost recovery basis for special events and conferences. [RATES]

DVD/VCR Wallboxes have been installed in many classrooms. The Wallbox provides (1) a combo DVD/VHS player, (2) an intercom to Media Equipment, and (3) all local control: to turn monitors and/or data/video projector on and off, to adjust volume, and to switch between sources. View a sample Wallbox.

Twenty four classrooms have computer lecterns with installed computers with DVD-ROM drives, easy-to-access USB ports, sound system support, and network connectivity. An additional thirty five classrooms have pre-wired laptop lecterns or wall box units that access the installed data projector, network and sound system.

  • Each drive is partitioned to allow for maximum storage; students may petition for more space if needed
  • Each station is equiped with a digital tape deck (for mini-DV and DV-CAM), headphones, and two monitors

Embarcadero Hall was designed as a premier lecture facility. It offers excellent acoustics and has great sight lines to the stage from its 247 seats. A lecturer can control all aspects of media presentation from the stage. The facility boasts a fully dimmable lighting system and a lectern that can be connected to a laptop computer for digital presentations.

This unit provides assistance in acquiring and scheduling films, videotapes, and other media for UCSB classes.

UCSB maintains video and film collections in Kerr and Buchanan Halls. Materials from these collections are available at no charge for instructional purposes only. Previews are available upon request from the instructor.

Instructional Resources provides faculty with a subsidy of $75 per course for acquiring titles from off campus libraries and rental agencies. Reference books, indices, and catalogs from educational and feature film and video distributors are available. Orders to off-campus vendors should be placed at least three (3) weeks in advance of show date.

Isla Vista Theaters has the second largest classroom facility on campus, seating 525 students, and a smaller, more intimate room seating 144 students. Both theaters are equipped with a full complement of instructional equipment. Public and private performances and/or film screenings in 16mm or 35mm formats are possible whenever classes are not in session.

Offering a wide range of classroom and media support, we provide equipment and operators to assist faculty with instructional/media needs.
