CLASSROOM COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY

Classroom Services provides comprehensive computer support services free of charge in a select group of 23 general assignment classrooms. (See table below) Each of the 23 classrooms is equipped with a built-in computer/lectern permanently wired to a data projector and the classroom computer network. laptops may also be used in any of these 23 classrooms. In addition, a number of classrooms are equipped with data projectors and network ports for use with laptop computers.

Permanently installed equipment enables a much greater number of faculty the ability to use computer technology in theor classes than would be possible on a delivery basis. Our strategy is to maximize equipment availability and reliability while minimizing scheduling difficulties and costs. Savings resulting from decreasing scheduling and delivery costs will also allow us to permanently equip more clasrooms and maintain newer technologies in existing classrooms.

As funding permits, Instructional Development will continue to provide laptop computers on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the growing demand for laptops, however, faculty are strongly encouraged to schedule a fully equipped classroom or bring their own laptops to class.

Recharge Policy

1. Free access to computers and projectors is limited to scheduled classes in equipped classrooms. Laptops and projectors are also available free of charget on short term loan (typically 3 hours) from Media Equipment, 1160 Kerr Hall.

2. Charges for labor only will apply to the delivery of laptops and projectors. Reservations for delivery services must be made five working days in advance.

Projector Column Code:

1 = Installed Data / Video Projector - free of charge for classroom instruction (F/W/S/S).

Recharge = Requires delivery and technical support. Labor charge only. Equipment provided free of charge for classroom instruction (F/W/S/S).

Computer Column Code:

1 = Installed computer / lectern - no recharges apply

FPU = "Faculty Pick-Up" Laptop computers available free of charge for classroom instruction in Media Equipment, Kerr Hall 1160. Delivery and technical support services available on a recharge basis.

Recharge = Requires delivery and technical support of data projector, cart, cables, etc. Labor charge only. Equipment provided free of charge for classroom instruction (F/W/S/S).
